Troop 187 Committee meeting Upper Blue Elementary August 14, 2002
Attending: Bill Bartels, Ev Thomas, Tom Koch, Ira Redner, Robyn Cornwell, Mike McKee, Lee Edwards I. Meeting called to order at 7:05 by Robyn Cornwell II. Approval of minutes from last meeting A. June 5th minutes approved with corrections. Ev Thomas motions and Mike 2nd. All in Favor. motion passes. III. Scoutmaster Report - Tom Koch 1. Philmont: Slides and pictures are here. Will show at the next C.O.H. in September. It was a good experience and a good time for all that attended. The boys were well prepared. Next Philmont trip will be in 2004. 2. Ben Delatour Scout Ranch/Elk Horn: All boys had a blast but the food was lest to be desired. All aquatics were canceled and no one was notified before hand. The last week of camp not a very good time to attend. Will not make the same mistake twice. 3. Up coming events/comments. 1. Aug. 31st annual duck race. Scouts will work it. 2. Sept. 7th: Parent-son rifle shoot. Time and location to be determined. 3. Annual Plan: will be presented to the committee at next meeting. Will be presented by Justin George. 4. Chris Dobbins: This will be next years summer camp. It can be looked up at denverareacouncil.com. 5. Merit Badge Rally: August 14th. None of our troop to attend. November 16th will be the next Merit Badge Rally. Arapaho district. Lee Edwards to get more information. 6. Scout/Cub Scout camporee: site has been changed to Dillon camp ground. A bike trip may be planned as well as fishing. to be held on Sept.27th, 28th, 29th. 7. Sea-Base: discussion about uniforms, flight plans etc. discussion followed. IV. Outdoor / Activities Report - Nancy Wood A. Absent. 1. Ideas for Spring or Summer fund-raiser. 2. Ideas for recruiting new scouts.
v. Treasurer Report - Ira Redner. A. See handouts. B. Donations 1. Thanks to Todd Davis for donating materials for small Scout trailer. 2. A nice thank you note goes to Andy Clapp for T-shirts for Philmont. Robyn Cornwell will write it. C. Billing went out on Monday. This covered Sea-Base and some misc. charges to the boys account. Some boys still do not have applications or payments for Sea-Base. VI. Advancement Report - Ev Thomas. A. Ev was pleased to see that so many merit badges were earned at camp. 23 partial and 27 complete. B. B.O.R: Will now be held on every third Monday of every month. The Scout is responsible for contacting Ev the Monday before to have it set up. C. Ev would like to see the boys take on more of a leadership role with positions they hold in their patrol. D. 27 Scouts made advancement, 7 Scouts made first class. E. Recruiting: needed very badly. Our troop is too Senior. We need more younger boys. F. C.O.H.: to be held on September 23rd starting at 6:30, next B.O.R will be held on Sept. 16th G. 4-H rifle and Archery Range: Indoor range: Jan.-April Archery only, exclusive to Boy Scouts. April-Sept. 4-H exclusive, boys are welcome to become 4-H members Sept-Oct. Open to boy scouts. Training to be a rifle and archery instructor: Oct. 11,12,13th.
VII. Training Report - Lee Edwards. A. See handout. VIII. Equipment Report - Mike McKee. Mike is our new equipment chairman. Welcome aboard! Mike will start to coordinate with the troop quartermaster and make list of troop equipment.
X. Old Business A. Patrol leaders need to start to crack down on patrol members who do not show up to meeting in full uniform. B. B.O.R. and C.O.H and the correct way the boys do their blue cards need to be brought to their attention. C. Leadership positions need to be stressed to the boys as an important step in advancement. D. Fund-raisers. Ideas for a spring or summer fund-raiser. Next Committee Meeting E. Annual plan. To be finalized at next Committee Meeting. XI. New Business. NONE XII. Adjournment.
