Scout Troop 187 Committee Meeting

December 6, 2000

Present: Tom Koch, Dick Shaffer, Reid Cornwell, Robyn Cornwell, Everett Thomas, Travis Bennett, Jerry Rawles, Bill Marvin

The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m.

Approval of 11/8/00 minutes, seconded, and carried unanimously.

Scoutmaster’s Report- Dick Shaffer

Poorer participation: 

Lately, approximately 50% of usual. Dick owes it to boys being involved in school and school activities. He feels that the programming has stayed consistently good and we need to drop some boys (~9) from the charter.

Christmas Party:

Dick will copy and mail a flyer about the party to every registered boy’s family

The newsletter will be distributed at the party and will include the activity schedule and reference the website.

January Meetings/ Activities

First meeting will be a uniform inspection

Other January events include tubing at Vail or Keystone (Justin George’s mom may be able to arrange at Vail as she works for Vail). Swim meeting at the Rec Center

Activities- Tom Koch

A. Boreas Pass Trip

Paid for

More boys than spots; Scoutmaster and SPL will make choice

Needed for trip-$25.00, releases signed, sheet posted, accounts will be charged

Rick Herwehe and Dick Shaffer will be the adults on the trip

B. COPES Course

Deposit for 7 boys and 2 adults is due to Camp Tahosa ASAP

$25.00 non-refundable fee per scout and adult, boys must be 13 by January 1, 2001

June 15-17, 2001

First come, first serve basis

Motion made to make a deposit of $250.00 to reserve 10 spots. Motion carried.

C. Summer Camp

Camp Alexander (July 1st- July 7th) requires a deposit of $2475 by February 14th, balance due May 4th

Based upon 30 scouts @$165.00 and 5 adults @ $90.00

Wilderness Adventure only available to those scouts 14 and older, includes use of GPS, orienteering, 3-day backpacking hike in Pike National Forest

Activity opportunities include kayaking, bicycling, rock climbing, horseback riding, black powder shooting

Only twelve spots available for wilderness program, an additional $25 per scout

Motion to reserve 5 spots for the wilderness program. Motion carried

Motion: Boys must have a deposit of $83.00 in by Feb. 5th if they are attending camp. Motion carried.

D. Philmont, 2002

Arrive 6/28/02 and depart 7/10/02

$182.00 per person deposit, our deposit of $700.00 will be held until January

E. Frezoree

February 2- 4, 2001

18 boys, 6 adults, $10.00 for troop = $106. 00 deposit

F. Tour Permits

Must be obtained two weeks in advance of activity

A tour permit was obtained the night before an activity, this must stop in order to receive "clean" insurance.

Fund Raising

A. Money owed council

Jeanina is suppose to get hard copy of records to Travis, he is still waiting for this

B. Christmas Tree sales

14 families signed up to work at the lot

All trees will sell between $25 and $80 with the exception of a blue spruce that one of the church members is donating. We will need to procur a permit to cut the tree.

There will be an article in the paper on 12/3/00 and Travis will do a 30 second KHTH PSA over the radio

Travis recommends that we give Nick Doperalski a tree for letting us use his camper as well as top off the gas tank of the camper. Committee members agreed.

Horse trailer needs to be returned. Hinge broken? Reimburse gas costs?

Account for each check to develop data base of supporters, write a thank you note

Ev and Jerry are working the lot in support

A. Boards of Review

Monday, December11: Chris Marvin to Life, Eric Davis to 2nd class

Jerry, Robyn, Bill, Reid and Tom said they could help

Equipment- Bill Marvin

A. Status of equipment

Working on hose

Working on inventory- quartermaster should be assisting in this process

Shelves for the trailer and patrol boxes are on the list of things to get done

Treasurer’s Report- Kate Johnson

To be appended- Kate not present

Committee members voiced concerns about not knowing checking and savings account balances, boys need updated balances of accounts, several people need reimbursing for money spent

Letter to encourage parental involvement

Committee members thought this would be a great idea
