Scout Troop 187 Committee Meeting January 5, 2000 Present: Tom Koch, Mark Beling, Terry George, Dick Shaffer, Lori Norton, Reid

Travis Bennett The meeting was called to order at 7:35 p.m. I.
Approval
of 12/8/99 minutes, seconded, and carried unanimously. II.
Introduction
of New Committee Members
III. Equipment Needs A.
In order to fully outfit the number of boys currently in troop, needs are: 1.
5 additional tents 2.
2 coolers 3.
Dutch ovens and stoves 4.
Town of Breckenridge will allegedly give troop $2000
contingent upon matching funds. We are still awaiting letter confirming this. IV. Troop Finances A. Current status 1.
$9873.09 in savings account 2.
$2315.75 in checking account 3.
$4721.00 in profit from Christmas trees sales (included in
savings figure) B.
Discussion surrounding reserve figures, dues vs. one-time registration fees,
fund-raising, accounting of fundraising hours, and upcoming re-charter ensued 1.
In 1998, troop held $1500.00 operating funds in reserve 2.
In 1999, $2000.00 was held in reserve 3.
Boys are paying $2.00 in dues weekly (supposedly to cover registration,
insurance, Boys Life, and contribute to operating fund) 4.
If dues will not cover operating costs, must come up with fund-raisers or
find alternative way of funding operating budget (each boy costs approximately $100.00) 5.
Re-charter will cost $541.00 6.
Concerns were voiced about fundraising hours and reimbursement to scouts-
equitable or not? 7.
Discussion was then tabled until solid, accurate figures were available and a
thorough inventory of equipment and merit badge books could be completed 8.
It was felt that boys could have an accurate accounting of the amount of
money in their accounts by January 24th, the Court of Honor A.
District: 1.
Council Award for District hikes- if as a troop we can come up with a trail, it can
be added to a patch B. Local Events: 1.
Medicine Mountain Scout Ranch (July 29th August 5th) a.
need a commitment of $10.00 from each scout by Feb. 1st b.
cost of camp is $135.00 per scout for camp, $40.00 travel / food expenses and
additional fees for special activities of each scouts choosing (rock climbing,
caving, etc.) c.
must submit activity preferences by March 1st if boys are to get first
choices 2.

Notes: 1.
Dick would like to see each person on the Committee have a specific role a.
guidelines, duties, and expectations are delineated in Committee Handbook 2.
Need to stay on top of Trip Permits- use calendar 3.
Newsletter- A discussion about whether to mail out newsletters or not was
initiated. Some parents are not receiving them from their boys. The Committee agreed that
newsletters would be made available at meetings and a current newsletter would be hung on
bulletin board. 4.
Bulletin board- the church agreed to allow the troop to hang a bulleting
board. Travis volunteered to get the bulletin board. VII.

Advancement 1. Data on each scout is complete, including personal and advancement records B. Training of New Committee Members 1.
Need about ½ day to complete, a Saturday would be best 2.
After considering many dates, all agreed on Saturday, January 29th at 3.
New members should come prepared to describe what kind of troop Father Dyers
Church wants
