Ev Thomas called the meeting to order at 7:08 p.m.
A. Committee Needs:
1. Need committee members for Training, Transportation, Membership follow-up,
and someone (maybe not on the committee) to help Tom as an assistant
2. Put needs in next newsletter
3. Talk to Nancy Woods-Sugerman, Kathy Davis, and Mary Camãno
4. Troop should develop a Resource Sheet
B. Scoutmaster Report (Dick Shaffer)
1. Dick reiterated that he would like to see a membership coordinator who
would follow up on boys who become inactive
C. Activities (Tom Koch)
1. Air Force Campout (Nov. 17-19)
Tom has releases for 16 boys, 8 adults
Dick and Tom will be going down early with 4 boys, remaining 12 boys will
be transported by 6 adults
Dick and Jon Fredrickson will be in charge, while Bill Marvin, Reid
Cornwell, Todd Davis, and Josh Mirto will be in the Geezer Patrol
Meals have been planned with some boys buying lunch at the stadium on
Saturday. Sack lunches may be made prior to the hike on the Falcon Trail on
Sunday.
Tent poles need to be repaired, propane tanks need to be exchanged and
filled, pots and pans need to be cleaned, firewood and water needs to be
brought, as well as the metal ½ barrels
Tour permits are done and submitted.
2. Hut Hike (Dec. 20-21)
a. 12 positions paid for the one night overnight
b. Price is $13.00 per scout plus food, there is a limit of 12 spots
c. Hut has 12 beds, stove, and cooking facilities
d. Scouts will have to snowshoe or ski the 61/2 miles up and back with gear
e. Will need to have at least one CPR trained adult- two adults, 10 scouts
f. SAG with snowmobile?
3. Philmont (June 27- July 8, 2002)
a. Spot reserved for two crews, June 27th as day one, on trail
for 12 days, leave the 13th day after breakfast
b. Scouts must be 14 by 1/1/02,
c. Maximum of 12 per crew, with minimum of two adults, maximum of 4 adults
d. Motion made to cover deposit, from treasury, for two crews to secure
reservation at Philmont- $50 times 14 for a total $700.00
e. Two adults must be CPR/ First Aid Certified
f. Dick recommended that scouts maybe work at the Rec Center in exchange
for training/ use of facilities
g. Tom has ordered a video to show scouts and parents to promote this event
h. Boys will have to set criteria for who attends, preparation, training
schedule, requirements for backpacking merit badge
D. Christmas Tree Sales (Travis Bennett)
1. Lodge poles- Forest Service is allowing the public to cut
for a $10.00 permit fee. Travis feels we should only cut 50 as a result of
this.
2. Wreaths- 26" balsam wreaths @ $24.00. Committee
agreed on ordering 50 wreaths.
3. Trees (250 from Safeway, 50 cut lodge pole) and 50 wreaths
4. Lot is at Wellington and Main, across from Racer’s Edge
a. Need transportation for fencing
b. Need Warming Hut
c. Will have electricity for lights, generator, etc.
5. Ev added that he is concerned about how profitable this fundraiser when
compared to hours and loss of program involved. Jerry Rawles has offered to
allow boys to come to his woodworking shop and make ski pole wind chimes. It
takes about 20 minutes to make 1 and they sell for about $20.00 apiece.
6. Committee members felt that Christmas tree sales are profitable, if
planned and organized. Boys may be calling Jerry, though, to try and earn
additional funds.
E. Advancement (Reid Cornwell)
1. Saturday, November 11th, Josh Mirto will have his Eagle
Board of Review at 1:30 pm at Father Dyer Church
a. Phil Heller, Mark Pieper, Dan Johnson, Nick and Dublowski are
community members who will be attending. The review will last 1 to 11/2
hours.
2. The Court of Honor on October 23rd went very well.
(See attached agenda with awards presented. There were 13 rank advancements
and 42 merit badges distributed. The Venture Patrol presented a slide show of
their whitewater rafting trip down the Green River and dessert was served.
F. Equipment (Bill Marvin)
1. Three burner hose is busted- need for Air Force? Committee recommended
fixing it so it works for two burners.
2. Pots need to be cleaned. Were left dirty and thrown in trailer after
summer camp. Tom recommended talking to Hearthstone Catering as they have a
place on Airport Road where we can run them through and sanitize them.
3. Tent poles need to be repaired. Dick said he would put them on the
agenda for Monday night.
4. Bucket full of scrub pads and wash cloths. Committee felt that
salvageable items could be washed, the rest thrown away.
G. Treasurer’s Report (Kate Johnson)
1. Kate was not present, no information on accounts.
H. Old Business
1. Charlie Ringer announced that apparently the troop still owes council
$550.00. Travis had prorated the Charter amount and attached a letter
explaining what he had done. Travis said he would handle it by talking to
Jeanina and then Kate.
