II. Agenda:

A.  Merit Badge Counselor List - Once we have obtained both the counselor application and the adult leadership application on each merit badge counselor, a current list of merit badge counselors will be sent to Council. It would be advantageous to do a training session for merit badge counselors. This could include an introduction to merit badges, a merit badge counseling packet, and an opportunity to view the Advancement video (about 1 hour). The training could be done in conjunction with a Committee Meeting. It was stated that the National Council recommends that there be a diversity in merit badge counselors, that there be two boys to each counselor (more personalized), and that the list of counselors be expanded to outside troop leadership. It was felt that there was a need for Leadership Training as well and the committee agreed to meet on Wednesday, October 20th at 7:00 p.m. to watch the Fast Start and Advancement videos. Tom Koch volunteered to make copies of leadership information to distribute that evening.

B.   Christmas Tree Sales Update -  115 trees ( 100  5-7’ and 15  7-9’) have been ordered from Safeway. The troop is tentatively set up for the cutting of 75 lodge pole pines on November 13th and 14th. A letter about tree cutting and a schedule for sales (see attached) has been sent to all parents.  In addition, opportunities for earning the Forestry and Salesmanship merit badges were addressed. A motion was made to keep a record of every check written during tree sales. It was seconded. It was felt that it would be a good way of keeping track of “friends of scouting”.  A guest book/ file card box could be kept for the purpose of writing thank you notes, announcing tree sales for the next year, and seeking donations. The question was called and the motion to keep track of sales carried.

C.  Policy Clarification: Active Participation -  After some discussion, active participation will now be defined as 50% participation in all meetings and activities. Active  participation guidelines for leadership positions are spelled out in leadership role expectations. A reminder was made at this time about the upcoming backpacking hike on October 16th  (9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.) and Summit County Youth Day on October 17th (12:00 – 4:00 p.m.).

D. Annual Plan- The Annual Planning Meeting is scheduled for Saturday, October 30th at 9:00 a.m. Goals for the troop are to continue to 1) earn the Quality Unit Award, 2) provide a summer camp experience, and 3) replace and add to equipment (tents, backpacking stoves, etc.) The tentative 2000 Year-At-A-Glance is as follows:
