Troop 187 Committee Meeting

June 6,2001

 

Attending:   Tom Koch, Reid Cornwell, Dick Shaffer, Ev Thomas, Bill Marvin, Ira Redner, Mark Saldivar, David Zajek    

  I.                   Meeting Called to Order: at 7:03 pm by Tom Koch

II.                 Approval of Minutes from Last Meeting

A. No minutes available. Will be completed and posted on web and e-mail. Need to add Ira and Mark to e-mail group.

III.             Scoutmaster Report- Dick Shaffer

A.    Currently have 7 uniformed leaders (Rick, Doug, David, Dick, ?) Training is a high priority. ASM meetings on 5/24/01 and 6/20/01

B.     Backpacking- discussion, conclusion is we need a program where all boys have fun. Didn’t address scouting items. Need patrol structure.

C.    PLC (6/4/01) Need to have them on different nights, fewer to no adults, election for new SPL Monday, June 11th.

D.    Activities- are there too many? Annual plan will be completed in August. Needs to include bike hike, fishing, and overnight hike.

E.     Camp Alexander- Need merit badge list and registration. Boys need to pick merit badges by no later than Monday.

IV.              Secretary’s Report- Robyn Cornwell

A.    SEE ABOVE

B.     Ev thanks the troop for their help with the church clean-up and cooking of food for volunteers

V.                 Outdoor/ Activities Report- Mark Saldivar (replacement for Reid Cornwell)

A.    Philmont 2002- Motion was made that boys need to be first class or higher in order to attend. Motion was seconded and passed unanimously. Motion was also made that any adult accompanying the troop will need to have completed Basic Leadership Training. Motion was seconded and passed unanimously.

B.     Ev feels that the troop does not have good working patrols.

C.    Mark will need to plan Summer Camp (2002) for new boys and scouts unable to attend Philmont. Once chosen, a deposit will have to be sent fairly quickly.

VI.              Treasurer Report- Tom for Kate Johnson

A.    It is Tom’s understanding that Kate will probably be leaving us as treasurer due to her added workload with her business. If anyone has a suggestion for a replacement for Kate, please provide information to Tom.

B.     Ira Redner volunteered to be the new committee treasurer. Thank you, Ira.

VII.           Advancement/ Chaplain Report-   Ev Thomas

A.    Next Court of Honor will be in September. Last Court of Honor was in March.

B.     15 minute merit badge informational classes starting in 2 weeks.

C.    Janina (Western Council) has sent list of advancement for comparison to actual advancement status. Ev is in the process of correcting these records in conjunction with the Assistant Scoutmasters.

IX.              Training Report- Reid Cornwell

A.    Will not be doing BLT. Will have practical and pragmatic training sessions on Mondays for any adults not working directly with the unit. All adults are invited.

X.                 Equipment Report- Bill Marvin

A.    Trailer update- looks great, one more Saturday before camp for clean-up, inventory.

XI.              Old Business

A.    None.

XII.           New Business

A.    Cub Camp in Granby (August 17- 19). We need volunteers to help with activity. Our fellow scouter, B.J. Gray has taken ill and we have ben asked to assist. This is an opportunity for our boys to get service hours and camping nights.

B.     Next meeting scheduled for July 11, 2001 at Upper Blue Elementary
