Committee meeting

Upper Blue Elementary

March 6, 2002

 

Attending: Bill Bartels, Ev Thomas, Tom Koch, Bill Marvin, Ira Redner, Robyn Cornwell, Lee Edwards

I. Meeting called to order at 7:02 by Robyn Cornwell

II. Approval of minutes from last meeting

A. Minutes of the February 6th meeting motion to approve by Lee Edwards and 2nd Ev Thomas with corrections. Motion Passes

III. Scoutmaster Report - Tom Koch

A. Winter campout was great fun with great experience. A polar bear patch will be awarded to those who participated. Arrow points to those who repeated. There will be a snow mobile class on March 8th and 9th at 6:30 to 9:30 and examination on Saturday with a practical and Bar-B-Que.. B.O.R advancement handout, 1st class by March 15th.

B. Request for information booklets; new patrol hand books, outdoor activities for Wind River Range, Wilderness First Aid. This is a good time to work on First Aid. Discussion on the purchase of one very high quality first aid kit. Will recommend to the equipment guy to look into it, types, prices ect.... Passport to High Adventure also requested. It would be good to make up a box of materials to be able to hand over to other leaders in troop. Ira Redner makes a motion to approve tomÆs request for the purchase of new books, Lee 2nd, motion pass with lots of discussion.

C. Word needs to be spread among the boys and especially some parents that Monday nights are for the scouts and the leaders. Tom wants and needs to have the boys to himself. Lets keep those well meaning but pesky parents out of the meetings.

D. Philmont meeting, will discuss equipment. Morgan Cornwell will organize the meeting. Ira requests that the next troop meeting to be the deadline for equipment requests so that there will be plenty of time to order and receive. .

IV. Outdoor / Activities Report - Mark Saldivar

A. Mark made up some sample permission slips. Please see attachments. Discussion ensued about fees and deadlines on applications. Lots of discussion ensued

B. Sea-Base; will be in the Bahamas. There is an age restriction of 13 but no rank limit. However, Troop 187 may have the rank limit of 1st class. Ev Thomas made a motion for this to be ineffect, Bill Bartels 2nd. Robyn Cornwell called the question, all in favor, motion pass. Discussion ensued

C. Final payment for Philmont is to be on April 1st, $115.00.

 

v. Treasurer Report - Ira Redner.

A. See handout.

B. Ira will put out a list of those scouts who will tap out their accounts this summer.

C. Discussion about tomÆs reimbursement for Medic First Aid, Trailer insurance, awards, and TomÆs other expenses were motioned by Mark Saldivar,2nd by Bill Marvin. Robyn Cornwell calls the question. Discussion ensued.

VI. Advancement Report - Ev Thomas.

B.O.R. was great. 5 boys advanced. B.O.R. will not call on boys not advancing. Tom will be working with these guys to get them caught up. Wilderness survival merit badges to be given out. Pamphlets are done. Ev suggested that we should offer a book buy back from the boys for $2.00.

Dans mother has approached Ev about purchasing pin with ribbons that will show boys rank for the mothers to wear. $1.20 for the pin and for all boys would total $130.00 and 3.20 for the ribbon, and parents to buy the ribbon about $200.00 for all parents. Mark Saldivar motion for the parents to purchase the ribbon, Lee Edwards 2nd.

Cross Over, April 23rd. 8 boys will become scouts. Will need 8 scarves and 8 slides

 

VII. Training Report - Lee Edwards.

See hand out. Possible dates for training are Saturday and Sunday

VIII. Equipment Report - Bill Marvin.

Will find out about equipment list and what will be needed for Philmont by April 1st.

IX. Committee Chair Comments - Robyn Cornwell.

! Special Olympics, 11 scouts attended. It was a great time, however, some of the scouts took off their uniforms off and left without permission. Some had a hard time following directions. All in all it was a great time. It ended with a trip to A&W afterwards.

2. Recharter completed. 23 youth and 14 adults.

3. Correspondence; several notes have been written and sent out. Many thanks to everyone for supporting the troop. An offer for the use of the airstream again for next years tree lot has been received.

4. Photo shoot; looking for Hispanics, girls age 16 or older for magazine, field book.

5. Trained uniform leaders to be on activities, many complaints from parents.

X. Old Business

Ev Thomas suggests that a fund-raiser book needs to be put together. The start of a format or plan that we should use to start with. Meet on Monday the 11th to discuss.

XI. New Business.

Ira, suggests that we look into a second fund-raiser for the troop in the spring or summer. Tom suggests that everyone reread ôeveryoneÆs canoeö. Get the point!!!!!!

XII. Adjournment. Robyn Cornwell, 9:42P.M. approved.
