Committee meeting

Upper Blue Elementary

May 8, 2002

 

Attending: Bill Bartels, Ev Thomas, Tom Koch, Bill Marvin, Ira Redner, Robyn Cornwell, Lee Edwards, Nancy Woods

I. Meeting called to order at 7:00 by Robyn Cornwell

II. Approval of minutes from last meeting

A. NONE

III. Scoutmaster Report - Tom Koch

1. Supper hike scheduled for Saturday May 11th at 10:00 am. It will be on the Peaks trail. 2. A flag ceremony to be held for sertoma at 7:30 at the Great Divide Lodge on May 16th - 18th.

3. May 17th through 19th, spring camporee at Three Rivers.

4. May 20th Bears, boys are to invite parents to a talk presented by the Department of Wildlife on Bears and you. It will center on travels into the back country.

5. Court of Honor, June 3rd. Board of Review for John OĘConner, Marshall Snead, May 13th.

6. Advancement Reports; Data base needed to be developed, Robyn volunteers to complete forms.

7. Philmont: Practice hike this weekend. The boys are to pay a five dollar fee to the NRA for a membership and a dollar for each tent used the night before going to Philmont at the Whitting Center. The total will be Twelve dollars.

8. Ask Ev Thomas about the recreation center pass.

9. Need to inquire about space at Upper Blue for our Boy Scout library and a place to store the flags.

10. Birthdays: cake and juice once a month to celebrate the boys and ASMĘs birthdays. A service patrol needs to be created. This would entail the set up, serving and clean up of the celebrations.

BOEC trail maintenance project will take place on May 25th and 26th, June 1st and 2nd. If the troop can help they would provide a COPE course with no age limit.

IV. Outdoor / Activities Report - Nancy Wood

A. Mark Saldivar has jumped ship!!!! Nancy Wood to take over the position, you go girl!

B. More scouts are need for the COPE course on June 14th through 16th. final payment is needed on May 15th. If we donĘt have the number needed do we drop. We need 10 boys and at least 2 adults. It needs to be talked up next Monday at the meeting.

C. ELK Horn - High adventure camp. very slim sign up. If not enough boys sign to go then the ones that have signed up my be folded into another group.

D. BDSC. Eight have signed up need two more.

E. SEA-BASE sign up doing well.

F. The Supper Hike has been changed to equipment clean up for storage. Time 10 to 2:00 meet at Father Dyer

v. Treasurer Report - Ira Redner.

A. See handout.

VI. Advancement Report - Ev Thomas.

Ev to purchase scarves and red tabs for new boys, moms ribbons and pins. Board of Review to be held on May 13th and Court of Honor to be held on June 3rd. The program will be up to the boys to decide. Ev will take care of all the awards.

VII. Training Report - Lee Edwards.

See hand out. Possible dates for training for wood badge.

VIII. Equipment Report - Bill Marvin.

Bill says that some lodge poles and saw horse legs are missing from the trailer at Snowbridge. He is looking for some scouts and adults to help clean up and organize the trailer. A new place to store equipment was found by Ira. The owner is willing to pay for all labor and the money will go into the accounts of scouts that help. The trailer will be needed for the Three Rivers camp out. Help will be needed to clean and organize and all equipment not going to the camp out will be stored at the new location at 008 Crown Drive.

X. Old Business

A. Summer Fundraising - Separate meeting more casual setting.

B. Thanks to Bill Marvin for a good job on the Snowbridge clean up.

XI. New Business.

Mike Mckee--His name has come up for a possible position as recruiting chairman. Need to invite him to the next meeting.

Annie Lindsey--Director of the 4H shooting and Archery range at Key Stone. Could use a Eagle scout to help out. Annie would donate her time to teach marksmanship to the scouts.

XII. Adjournment. Robyn Cornwell, 8:40P.M. approved.
